Mike Baverstock - Director

Mike started my welding career over 40 years ago, learning to weld with Oxy-Acetylene, MMA & TIG, completing a number of tests in sheet metalwork and machining. I was welding to CAA standards in different materials, including Aluminium alloys, Titanium, Stainless Steels and Nimonic alloys. After moving to another company, I re-qualified in EN and ASME IX codes in TIG & MMA. After moving to a number of different jobs, I settled into a manufacturing/design role, helping with the design of tooling in production. I moved back into the Aircraft industry as a Welding Engineer and helped introduce and achieve the company’s NADCAP accreditation in different welding (fusion) processes. During these changes, I completed the European Welding Specialist, European Welding Technologist and European Welding Engineer courses at The Welding Institute (LINK), going on to complete a Master's Degree in Welding Engineering at Cranfield University (LINK).

For my last 12 years of full-time employment, I was in the Pressure Vessel Industry based in southern England as the Senior Welding Engineer advising on the manufacture of small and large pressure vessels in Stainless Steels, Nickel Alloys, Duplex and Carbon steels. I have completed over 50 WPQRs in ASME and EN and RCC-M (French Nuclear) codes. Then, write the associated Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS). I have supervised over 250 welder qualifications (codes) to BS EN ISO 9606-1, 9606-2, 9606-4 and ASME IX.

I have trained employees (Welders, Design Engineers, Quality Engineers, etc.) in visual inspection, welding processes, welding symbols and quality in welding, etc. The site I worked on had BS EN ISO 3834-2, and consequently, I was the RWC (Responsible Welding Engineer) for the site welding processes. I also audited subcontractors who the company purchased welded parts or assemblies.

I am now an RWC for several of my clients covering different processes, materials and industries. I also audit suppliers/Clients EN 1090/ISO 3834 to check their welding system and process. I am also a qualified assessor for UKAS in ISO 17020 and a subject matter expert for ISO 17065 & ISO 17024.
